Biofeedback training is a technique in which patients are taught to regulate various bodily functions with the aid of electronic feedback machines. This includes control of brain wave activity, blood flow to specific parts of the body, muscular tension and relaxation, temperature (warming the hands and feet at will, for example), and other bodily functions.
The Bresler Center features a state-of-the-art computerized biofeedback program that gives patients feedback about how well they are doing as they learn to relax. By incorporating this feedback information with deep breathing techniques, visualization, and mental and physical exercises, patients quickly learn how to reduce their anxiety, better control their reactions to stress, and significantly raise their tolerance to pain and discomfort.
